MORE ABOUT DR. ANNE

MORE INFO ABOUT my work

1986 “So, You Have to Go to Court!

Dr. Anne co-authored a Canadian bestseller, “So, You Have To Go to Court!”, a non-fiction work that demonstrably impacted legal proceedings to better support child witnesses in sexual assault cases.

Interest in non-fiction continued two decades later in “FLASH! The Science Behind Intuition,” exploring the concept of receiving life-guiding messages through light.

  • Born of the BC Special Prosecutor for child sexual assault cases, Wendy Harvey LL.B., who observed that her youthful witnesses required a great deal of orientation to the court system, she approached Dr. Anne with the idea of a book to do that training.
  • Dr. Anne was teaching in the UBC Special Education Faculty where she was also developing early reading books.
  • Their first draft was dire. Nobody would care to allow their children to face the Judge’s questioning and the harsh, child-unfriendly courtroom.
  • So they rewrote the book, inserting procedures to empower the witnesses. For example, “If you can’t see over the railing, ask the Judge for a cushion.” “If you feel like crying, ask for a tissue.” If there is someone in the courtroom you don’t want to see, ask the Judge if your testimonay can be filmed in the next room.
  • The book became the gold standard in witness prep and a best seller in Canada. It empowered witnesses, gave them a voice.

1986 “So, You’ve Been Busted!”

  • Who gets caught and faces criminal charges as a teen? Kids with Learning Disabilities, that’s who.
  • This book was designed to remove the unknowns from the LD kid’s court experience. For example, “You don’t just skip court because you don’t feel like it. That will land you in jail.”
  • This book was less successful than “So, You Have to Go to Court” because LD kids tend not to read books.

The two books above are out of print and not for sale.
